This July 1st, Flush Smart Day earned 5 stars on Hollywood’s rating scale. Instituted in 2022 with the enactment of California’s Wet Wipes Labeling Law, Flush Smart Day celebrates the progress of the #FlushSmart consumer education campaign, reminding consumers to look for the “Do Not Flush” symbol on wipes packaging.

In the week leading up to the big day, you may have noticed a trickle of movie posters featuring none other than the Clog Monster. From Cloggy to King Clog to a Flush Smart Day original, it became clear that Clog Monster was looking to make a splash out of his Hollywood debut.

That came true in a big way with the release of the Flush Smart movie trailer! Consumers got to see what happens when you flush one too many wipes labeled with the “Do Not Flush” symbol. Spoiler Alert: One too many non-flushable wipes and Clog Monster may just erupt from our sewage systems atop a California-sized fatberg!

Clog Monster not only released his chaos in California, but on our own RFA channels. Someone must have left the RFA password out, because that gremlin got access to our twitter account. His chaos continued until the team secured access, but it appears his trolling continues on his own twitter channel.

Despite the Clog Monster’s chaos, Flush Smart Day was a huge success thanks to our friends across California and beyond on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok! A special shout out to the many wastewater partners and RFA members who followed along by reposting all things #FlushSmart, #FlushSmartDay, and raising awareness of the “Do Not Flush” symbol.

Along with content across all social media channels, our President Lara Wyss appeared in studio on KCRA 3 News, a local Sacramento broadcast, to discuss the importance of the #FlushSmart campaign and the “Do Not Flush” symbol. We even saw coverage in Ventura County Star and received a shoutout from blogger Luci Morsels.

The Clog Monster may have thought he was the real Hollywood star this Flush Smart Day, but hopefully he spent more time on the big screen than in your sewer systems. Stay in the loop on responsible flushing habits all year long, not just on Flush Smart Day, by making sure you’re always looking out for the “Do Not Flush symbol” on wipes packaging.
